The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard throws the kick towards the body but Mariner avoids it.
Howard darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mariner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Howard is working for a submission of some sort.
Howard is keen to just control but Mariner is a slippery customer.

Howard is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mariner sees it coming and defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mariner is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Howard scores with a couple of nice shots.
Mariner is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Howard has latched onto it... Big trouble! Howard pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Mariner is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Howard!
