Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gregorio Reese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Skarne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Skarne! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reese throws a good cross that connects.
Skarne gets caught flat footed, as Reese shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Reese won't allow Skarne to sweep him here. Reese content to stall in guard here. Skarne working for a triangle but Reese defends it easily.
Skarne is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Reese wants to improve his position but Skarne is controlling well.

That's one minute gone in the round. Reese looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Skarne prevents Reese from improving his position. Reese is staying active underneath Skarne, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Skarne seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Reese works his way to full guard. Good work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Skarne can do anything to dispel that myth. Reese trying to control but Skarne is working from the bottom. Skarne wants to sweep here but Reese controlling him for the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Michael Skarne hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Skarne moves in looking to clinch but Reese pushes him off. Skarne fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Reese sprawls well initially but Skarne persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Reese trying to control from the bottom.
Skarne is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Reese is just riding it out for now. Skarne eventually gives up the hold. Reese looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Skarne is taking a breather. Reese says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Reese is staying active underneath Skarne, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Reese trying to hold on to Skarne's head to control him but Skarne postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Skarne with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skarne misses with a body kick. Reese tries to clinch there but Skarne circles away.
Reese feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Skarne is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Reese will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Skarne wants to stand but Reese is controlling the position. Skarne is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Skarne looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Reese not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Reese shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Reese really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Skarne bucks up and tries to throw Reese off but instead Reese has got his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
