PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Aerts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Hebert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hebert has chosen Lose Yourself as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peter Aerts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Hebert!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hebert has Aerts up against the cage in a clinch.
Hebert looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hebert fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Aerts manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Aerts has Hebert pulled in close to control his posture.
Hebert stands up out of Aerts's guard for a moment - Aerts manages to land a nice upkick.
Aerts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hebert is one step ahead there.

Aerts has his foot on Hebert's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hebert works his way back into a safe position though.

Aerts controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Aerts decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aerts lands a head kick!

Aerts feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hebert looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

BOOM! Hebert connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Peter Aerts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hebert looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Aerts has picked Hebert up and slammed him! Hebert can't keep hold of the triangle and Aerts manages to pass to side control!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Aerts lands with a kick to the temple. Hebert shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Aerts feints and as Hebert raises his hands in defense, Aerts changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Aerts postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Aerts is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Aerts gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Hebert is looking for a sweep.
Hebert is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Aerts looks up at the clock and then as Hebert takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Aerts smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hebert tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Aerts wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hebert tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Aerts with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Aerts content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Aerts wants to control from the top but Hebert keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Aerts prevents Hebert from getting back to his feet.

Hebert had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Aerts is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hebert Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Aerts's back instead.
Aerts looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
I really don't envy Aerts right now.
Joe Hebert has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Aerts is trying to defend against the choke here but Hebert has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Hebert Tightens the hold and Aerts taps out furiously! Hebert displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
