PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Swick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rashad Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Swick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rashad Evans!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Franklyn Lucas and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A shot to de liver by Swick. Beautiful body shot.

Swick changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Evans looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Evans looking for a sweep but Swick has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Swick prevents Evans from getting the reversal.

Swick has hold of Evans's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Evans manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Evans is wriggling around trying to escape.

Swick wants to finish this one by submission but Evans is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Swick.
Evans working to try and regain half guard.
Swick trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Swick throwing strikes here but Evans is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Evans in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Evans sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Evans is looking for a sweep. Swick is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Swick seems to be looking for submissions.

Evans looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Evans is trying to get back to full guard.
Swick trying to pass the guard but Evans defending well.
Swick seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Evans does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Swick is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Evans defends it well.
Swick is breathing heavily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Evans manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Evans looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Swick knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Evans on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Evans tries for a takedown but Swick circles away easily

and Swick counters with a single leg into guard. Evans didn't expect that.

Evans is looking for a triangle but Swick pushes his legs off easily.
Swick wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.
Swick wants to pass the guard but Evans is keeping the position.
Evans keeping moving, preventing Swick from controlling successfully.

Evans looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Swick looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Swick stands up over Evans, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Evans manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Swick manages to get himself to full guard.

Evans wants to pass the guard but Swick is keeping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Swick pushes Evans off and gets back to his feet.
Swick has a takedown stuffed.
Evans is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Swick counters with a right hand to the body.
Swick is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Evans.

Swick closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Swick lands in his opponent's guard.
Swick wants to control from the top but Evans keeps moving.

Swick drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Evans manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Swick has Evans in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Swick dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


No luck for Swick with that takedown attempt.
Evans cracks Swick with an open hand slap.
Evans throws a series of strikes that have Swick backpedaling.


Swick is rocked!


It looks like Mike Swick has been cut.

Evans is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Swick is in big trouble! Evans is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Swick. Poor guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Rashad Evans!
