Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Rocky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paul Rocky will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, BJ Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Rocky!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocky shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Penn defends it nicely.
Rocky fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rocky connects with a jab.
Rocky connects with a single shot there.
Rocky fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Penn avoids it really well and circles away.
BJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Rocky.
Rocky shoots in for a takedown but Penn shows good takedown defense.
Penn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rocky shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Penn but Penn pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Penn circles away from the clinch attempt
and Penn counters with a nice uppercut.

Penn dives in and scores a takedown into Rocky's guard.
Rocky has Penn pulled in close to control his posture.
Rocky is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rocky looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Penn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rocky is working away from the top position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn manages to get to full guard.
Penn trying to keep a closed guard but Rocky is proving a slippery customer.
Rocky trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rocky is one step ahead there.
Rocky content to stall in guard here.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Paul Rocky hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Rocky avoids the body shot from Penn.
Rocky looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Penn is fending him off so far but Rocky persists. Nope, Penn circles away and we're back to standing.
Rocky looks for a takedown but Penn sprawls well.

Penn is really struggling to control Rocky but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Rocky had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Penn defends it easily.

Rocky is working an open guard so Penn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Penn tries to land a front kick but Rocky steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Penn tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rocky defends well and Penn ends up having to push Rocky into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Penn breaks the clinch.
Rocky will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rocky looks winded!
Penn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that BJ Penn will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Penn catches Rocky with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Rocky.
Rocky goes for a double leg but Penn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Penn continues to drive forward.

I was talking to Penn's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Penn breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rocky displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Penn.
Rocky tries to clinch but Penn moves out of range.
Rocky will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Penn shoots in but Rocky avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Penn drives through with a takedown into Rocky's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Rocky is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rocky is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Penn drops back looking for a leg! Rocky is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Rocky manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Rocky's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Penn displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rocky.

Rocky wants to clinch
and Penn counters with a slapping leg kick.

Rocky fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Penn, pushing him back against the cage.

Penn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Penn tries to clinch but Rocky moves out of range.
Penn stuffs the takedown.
Rocky shoots in and drives through. Penn sprawls well.
Rocky is breathing heavily.
Penn takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt - Rocky sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Penn counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Penn.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Rocky tries to roll over but Penn keeps him under control.
Rocky takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rocky is looking to control Penn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rocky avoid being mounted?

Penn wants to stand up but Rocky is controlling the position.
BJ Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Penn trying to control from half guard but Rocky is working away.
Rocky works his way to full guard. Good work.
Rocky wants to sweep but no luck.
Penn wants to control from the top but Rocky keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of BJ Penn.

Penn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rocky's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rocky is trying to keep Penn in close.
Penn preventing the sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rocky has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Penn has passed into side control.
Rocky struggling a bit here.
Rocky tries to improve position but can't.
Rocky is not content to let Penn control the position.

Penn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rocky is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rocky to his feet.
Penn showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rocky.
Rocky tries to close the distance and clinch up but Penn swats him away and circles back towards the center.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Penn is defended easily by Rocky.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rocky tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rocky to the ground. Rocky escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Penn keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A head kick misses from Rocky.
Rocky thows a left - swing and a miss!
Rocky stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rocky shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Penn but Penn pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Paul Rocky has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
BJ Penn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rocky throws a low kick, looking for Penn's leg but Penn calmly moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
BJ Penn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Penn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
