Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dylan Baker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kullervo Hikipera! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Franklyn Lucas and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hikipera throws a head kick that misses. Baker really is a fat lump. Hikipera bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Baker's head backwards. Hikipera scores with a jab. Hikipera swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A nice inside leg kick there by Hikipera. That's going to slow Baker down. Hikipera looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Hikipera throws a nice head kick!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hikipera scores with a jab. Hikipera throws out a leg kick but Baker moves out of range and Hikipera only half commits. Kullervo Hikipera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Baker checks the leg kick. Hikipera connects with a leg kick. Baker looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Baker fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hikipera avoids it really well and circles away. Hikipera fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Baker is out of range. Hikipera pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Baker checks the leg kick nicely there.
Hikipera tries to score with a low kick but Baker moves his leg out of the way. A momentary lapse in concentration from Hikipera enables Baker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hikipera manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Baker keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hikipera's head. Baker working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hikipera's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Baker postures up in Hikipera's guard and throws a big left but Hikipera blocks it. Baker postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hikipera wants to stand and escape but Baker is having none of it. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Hikipera working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Baker. Baker stops Hikipera from standing up. Baker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hikipera is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Hikipera looks winded! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Baker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hikipera can do anything to dispel that myth. Baker keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hikipera's head. Baker throws a big right hand that misses. Baker wants to pass the guard but Hikipera is keeping the position. Hikipera wants to stand and escape but Baker is having none of it. Hikipera really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Baker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Baker scoring with punches to the head and body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hikipera wants to stand and escape but Baker is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baker forces his way into half guard. Baker scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Baker is nestled in close to Hikipera, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Baker stops Hikipera from getting back to his feet.
Baker is looking to advance position but Hikipera won't allow it. Baker lands strikes from half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Baker lands a nice short elbow. Baker looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Baker passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hikipera! Baker lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Baker lands a nice shot to the head. Baker dominating with strikes here. Hikipera is trying to stand. Baker unloading with bombs! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Baker postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Hikipera bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Baker and the fight is over!
