PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Denny Serrano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koos Diedoos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Denny Serrano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Koos Diedoos!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Serrano defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Diedoos.
Diedoos pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Diedoos fails with an attempt to clinch.

Serrano bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Serrano is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Diedoos will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Diedoos is working to avoid the ground and pound but Serrano connects with a decent elbow.
Serrano in side control, throwing shots but Diedoos defends.
Serrano controls the position from side control.

Serrano tries for a kimura but Diedoos is defending well.

A lull in the action here as Serrano stalls from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Serrano tries to stand but Diedoos is controlling his head.
Serrano is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Denny Serrano has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Diedoos tries to clinch but Serrano is having none of it.

Diedoos has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diedoos gets underhooks to prevent Serrano's takedown attempt.
Diedoos tries to circle away but Serrano has him pinned against the cage.
Diedoos is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Serrano to keep the fight standing.
Serrano keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Diedoos's efforts to push away.
A frustrated look appears on Diedoos's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Serrano stalls.

Diedoos breaks the clinch.
Serrano throws a front kick aimed at Diedoos's knee but Diedoos avoids it well.

Serrano dives in and scores a takedown into Diedoos's guard.

Serrano drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Serrano jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Serrano won't allow Diedoos to get back to his feet.
Serrano controlling from the top position.
Serrano working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Diedoos misses with an attempted mid kick.
Diedoos is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Serrano.
Serrano looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Diedoos is fending him off so far but Serrano persists. Nope, Diedoos circles away and we're back to standing.

Serrano feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Serrano wants to get up but he can't break Diedoos's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Serrano throws a big elbow that misses.
Serrano won't allow Diedoos to get back to his feet.
Diedoos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Serrano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Serrano is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Serrano shoots in looking for a takedown but Diedoos manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Serrano's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Serrano slips a jab and a cross from Diedoos.
Denny Serrano is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Diedoos is breathing heavily.
Serrano swats away the attempt to clinch by Diedoos.

Serrano bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Serrano advances nicely into full mount.
Serrano takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Serrano is trying to take his opponent's back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Diedoos can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Denny Serrano just wasn't active enough.
Diedoos tries to clinch up.
Diedoos just misses with a punch to the body.
Diedoos has his takedown stuffed

and Serrano counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Serrano's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Diedoos pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diedoos shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Serrano connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Denny Serrano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Koos Diedoos.
Diedoos swats away the attempt to clinch by Serrano.

Serrano shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Serrano showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Serrano tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Diedoos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denny Serrano dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Serrano tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Diedoos wants to clinch.
Diedoos shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Serrano as he avoids it easily.
Serrano tries to close the distance and clinch but Diedoos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diedoos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Diedoos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Serrano attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Diedoos is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Serrano closes the distance and clinches up with Diedoos, looking for a takedown. Serrano pushes Diedoos against the cage but Diedoos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Diedoos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Diedoos is looking to land body kicks.

Serrano fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Diedoos to the ground. Serrano is now in Diedoos's guard.

Serrano throws a big elbow that misses.
Diedoos can't keep his opponent in guard - Serrano advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Serrano keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Serrano throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Still in half guard, Serrano seems content to control.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Denny Serrano just wasn't active enough.

Serrano sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Diedoos is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Serrano lands a couple of good shots and Diedoos has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Serrano scores with punches and elbows.

Serrano working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Diedoos is doing well to defend. Serrano seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Diedoos is forced to tap and this one is over!
