PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cleveland Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cleveland Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Danny Crane!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cox changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crane tries to avoid it but Cox manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crane to the ground. Crane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Crane rushes Cox and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Crane can't get the takedown.
Crane is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Cox is defending well for now.
Crane tries for a takedown but Cox manages to get underhooks.
Crane tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Cox is trying to force a seperation but Crane has the dominant position.
Cox tries for a takedown. No joy.
Crane is trying to drag Cox to the mat but Cox just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Cleveland Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Crane.
Crane tries to pull guard but Cox forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cox prevents a takedown attempt there.
Crane stops a takedown attempt from Cox.

Crane stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Crane tries a body shot but Cox blocks it.
Cox goes for a takedown attempt but Crane pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Crane shoots in but no luck this time.
Cox is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crane sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Crane closes the distance and clinches up with Cox, looking for a takedown. Crane pushes Cox against the cage but Cox circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Crane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cox, pushing him back against the cage.

Cox has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Crane lands a damaging elbow.

Cox is looking to control Crane's arms but Crane gets an underhook and turns him. Now Cox has his back to the cage.
Crane fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Cox is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Cox stalls.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Crane jumps guard and drags Cox to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Cox is fighting to break Crane's control of his arms but Crane is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Cox thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Crane is adopting a defensive guard.
Cox engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Crane is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Cox stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crane swivels though and keeps the full guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Danny Crane hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Crane looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Crane shoots in for a double leg but Cox sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cox tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Crane defends well and Cox ends up having to push Crane into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Crane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Crane tries to clinch but Cox is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cox is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Crane.
Crane looks winded!
Crane throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Crane shoots in looking for a takedown. Cox tries to sprawl out of it but Crane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cox manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Crane dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cox goes for a double leg but Crane avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Crane continues to drive forward.

Crane decides to pull guard.

Cox gets to his feet - Crane follows without any prompting.
Cox closes this distance looking for a takedown but Crane circles away.
Crane scoring well with a low kick there.
Cox loads up on a big right hand but Crane slips the punch.
Crane fails to land the takedown.
Cox shoots for a takedown but Crane saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cleveland Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Crane breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cox misses with a low kick.
Crane keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Crane shoots in for a takedown but Cox shows good takedown defense.
Crane is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Crane is breathing heavily.
Cox shoots in but Crane avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cox throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Crane's waist but Crane gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cox off to one side.
Crane misses with a double jab.
Crane feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Cox's calf.
Crane smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Cleveland Cox is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cox tries for a takedown but Crane sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Crane instigates a clinch.
Crane tries to pull guard but Cox holds him up against the cage and eventually Crane drops back down to his feet.

Crane pulls guard.
Crane is trying to keep Cox in close.
Cox wants to pass the guard but Crane is keeping the position.
Crane working a defensive guard but Cox passes into half guard.

Cox works his way into full mount!
Crane tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cox thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Crane is trying to reverse the position but instead Cox has taken his back - oops!
Crane covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Cox could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cox is trying to stick to Crane's back but Crane is turning into Cox. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cox's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Crane.
Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Cox has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Crane has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Crane is pushing Cox up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Crane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cox.
Crane on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cox has a takedown stuffed.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Danny Crane will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Cox's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Cox sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Cox scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Crane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cox pinned against the cage. Cox gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cox dives in for a single leg takedown but Crane sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Cox is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Crane lands a good knee to the midsection. Cox won't want to take too many of those.

Cox is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Crane is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Crane has escaped and now he's on top!

Crane is looking to work some ground and pound but Cox has wrist control.
Crane slips nicely into half guard.
Crane throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cox avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Crane.
Crane thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cleveland Cox has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Danny Crane is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Cox flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Danny Crane.
Well Crane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
