PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Reginald Hatfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dante King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Reginald Hatfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dante King!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hatfield is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hatfield misses with a takedown
and King makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Hatfield looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? King is fending him off so far but Hatfield persists. Nope, King circles away and we're back to standing.
King feints and then cracks Hatfield's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hatfield down.
Hatfield goes for a double leg but King avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as King continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reginald Hatfield. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hatfield is trying to break the clinch but King is controlling him.
King drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hatfield pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hatfield closes the distance looking to clinch
and King counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

King closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hatfield quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Hatfield is trying to control but can't.
King wants to free his trapped foot but Hatfield is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Hatfield gets full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King won't allow Hatfield to sweep him here.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hatfield. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hatfield kicks King off and gets to his feet.

King feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Hatfield really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King stopping the sweep attempt from Hatfield.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Hatfield is looking for a triangle but King pushes his legs off easily.
Hatfield is breathing heavily.
King is fighting to break Hatfield's control of his arms but Hatfield is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
King is working Hatfield over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
King wants to stand but Hatfield is controlling his posture from full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
King wants to control from the top but Hatfield keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dante King has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

King dives in and scores a takedown into Hatfield's guard.

Hatfield has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. King is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Hatfield wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hatfield managing to block the knees to the body from King.
King tries for a takedown. No joy.
King jumps guard but Hatfield turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hatfield is trying to drag King to the mat but King just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

King lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hatfield moves into full guard.
King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hatfield is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dante King dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Hatfield dives in for a single leg takedown but King sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Hatfield is looking for a takedown up against the cage. King gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Hatfield throws an elbow that misses.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hatfield throws an elbow but misses.

King successfully pulls guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hatfield is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
King is trying to keep Hatfield in close.

Hatfield passes into half guard.
King wants to improve his position but Hatfield is controlling well.
Hatfield missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hatfield keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Hatfield is trying to control. King wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Hatfield stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows King to get to his feet.
Hatfield darts in looking for a takedown but King gets double underhooks and turns Hatfield into the cage.

Hatfield drops to a knee looking for a takedown but King gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
King is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

King tries to stand but Hatfield is controlling from the bottom.

Hatfield lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for King!
King slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
King is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King pushes Hatfield off looking to stand but Hatfield dives back in and keeps control.
King is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
King is holding on to half guard well.
Hatfield is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for King!
Poor strikes thrown by Hatfield there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Dante King has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
King keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hatfield is working for a guillotine from mount but King frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Reginald Hatfield will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Hatfield shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Hatfield keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

King decides to return to a standing position.
King circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hatfield shoots in looking for a takedown. King tries to sprawl out of it but Hatfield keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. King manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Hatfield closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Hatfield pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
King blocks the body kick.
Hatfield moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
King fails with a takedown attempt.
King looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Hatfield misses with a takedown attempt
and King counters with a big head kick but Hatfield shrugs it off.
King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

King shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hatfield is trying to defend but King finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
King is looking to take a break and control but Hatfield is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hatfield slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Hatfield is looking for a triangle but King pushes his legs off easily.
King pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hatfield is keeping the position for now.

King trying to control the position from guard on top but Hatfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hatfield will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hatfield wants to get back to his feet but King is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
King chips away with some ground and pound.
Hatfield utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
King throws a big elbow that misses.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hatfield works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hatfield looking to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.
King in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dante King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well King has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
