PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Condit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Piere (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Condit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Piere!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Condit shoots in for a double leg but Piere sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Piere takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Condit avoids a punch combination nicely.

Condit gets the takedown into side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Piere tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Condit wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Piere's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Piere managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Condit.
Condit misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Piere manages to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Condit thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Piere's head.
Piere wants to get back to full guard.

Condit is keen to just control but Piere is a slippery customer.
Piere keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up. George Piere was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Condit shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Piere misses with an uppercut. Condit saw that one coming.
Piere swings for the body but Condit moves out of range.
A shot to the liver by Piere. Beautiful body shot.
Condit delivers a nice body kick.
Condit gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Piere.
Condit tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Piere defends well and Condit ends up having to push Piere into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Condit. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Condit tries to work over Piere's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Condit is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Piere is defending well for now.

Condit gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Piere regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Piere looking to control.
Condit throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Piere works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Condit postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Condit is working Piere over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Condit loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Piere can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Condit controls the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Condit won't allow Piere to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Condit dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Piere thuds a left hand into Condit's body.
Condit closes the distance and clinches up with Piere, looking for a takedown. Condit pushes Piere against the cage but Piere circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Carlos Condit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Piere tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Condit was well out of range. Poor timing from Piere.
Condit shoots in for a takedown but Piere shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Piere sizes up Condit with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Condit fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Condit. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Piere connects with a good right hand that stumbles Condit. Condit circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
No luck for Condit with that takedown attempt.
George Piere seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Condit throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fighters circle momentarily. Piere darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Condit is rocked!
Condit shoots for a double leg takedown but Piere sprawls well. He's pushed Condit's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Piere throws a poor cross that misses
and Condit counters with a head kick.
Piere steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Condit is out on his feet! Piere sets himself and nearly takes Condit's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
