PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ignacio Pickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davide Megas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davide Megas will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ignacio Pickett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Davide Megas!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Megas connects with the punch.


It looks like Ignacio Pickett has been cut.

Megas gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Pickett breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Megas dives in for a single leg takedown but Pickett sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Pickett really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A short left from Megas.
Pickett will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Megas up against the cage.
Pickett misses with a short punch on the inside.
Megas tries to pull guard but Pickett holds him up against the cage and eventually Megas drops back down to his feet.
Megas looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Pickett manages to break the clinch.
Pickett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Megas as he jumps to the side.

Megas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pickett was covering up waiting for the punch and Megas finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Megas working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Pickett looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Megas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Megas working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pickett's head.
Pickett bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Megas's guard.
Megas has a closed guard, preventing Pickett from standing up.
Pickett works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Megas has hold of Pickett's hands but Pickett slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Megas is looking for a sweep. Pickett is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pickett is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pickett fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Megas is squirming around, avoiding Pickett's attempts to control the action.

Pickett has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Megas's face.

Pickett manages to capitalize on a mistake by Megas to take his back!

Megas is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Pickett lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pickett looking for the choke but no joy.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Will Pickett go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

The fight stays on the outside here - Megas looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Nice sprawl there from Megas as Pickett shoots in.
Megas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Megas shoots for a double leg takedown but Pickett sprawls well. He's pushed Megas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Pickett avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Ignacio Pickett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Davide Megas.

Pickett is controlling the pace.
Pickett wants to stand but Megas has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Pickett is keen to just control but Megas is a slippery customer.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Ignacio Pickett wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Megas shoots in but Pickett avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Megas is breathing heavily.
Pickett closes the distance and clinches up with Megas, looking for a takedown. Pickett pushes Megas against the cage but Megas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Megas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pickett manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Megas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Megas won't allow Pickett to get back to his feet.

Megas is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Davide Megas seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Pickett is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Megas pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Pickett tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Megas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Pickett gets caught flat footed, as Megas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Pickett has his foot on Megas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Megas works his way back into a safe position though.

Megas drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pickett manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Megas has Pickett in his guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Megas can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pickett looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Megas is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pickett scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pickett looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Pickett trying to control the action but Megas is working from the bottom.
Pickett perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Megas is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pickett is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Megas sees it coming and defends easily.

Pickett seems to be working for a kimura but Megas defends the submission attempt.
Pickett is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Megas trying to get back to full guard but Pickett takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Megas is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Megas in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ignacio Pickett.
I think Pickett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
