Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Mills! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacob Laws! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mills shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Laws manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Mills trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mills passes into half guard. Laws avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mills. Laws is looking to control Mills's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Laws avoid being mounted? Laws wants to get back to full guard. Laws is trying to control but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mills wants to stand up but Laws has a hold of him and won't allow it. Laws won't allow Mills to pass to mount. Mills is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Laws sees it coming and defends easily. Laws gets back to full guard.
Mills stays in close to Laws's body and controls the position. Laws working for submissions but it's allowed Mills to get to half guard.
Well, if Mills is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mills's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Laws wants to improve his position but Mills is controlling well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Steve Mills. Mills drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mills is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Mills chips away with some ground and pound. Laws wants to sweep here but Mills controlling him for the moment. Mills content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Laws wants to stand but Mills is controlling the position. Laws had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mills defends it easily. Mills controlling from the top position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steve Mills dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Mills fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Laws sprawls well initially but Mills persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Laws is pressing down on Mills's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Laws being controlled here, momentarily. Mills stopping the sweep attempt from Laws. Mills stops Laws from standing up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laws not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mills passes Laws's left leg - he's now in half guard. Laws looking for submissions off his back. Well, if Mills is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Laws takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Mills slows the pace down. Laws looks to move to half guard but instead Mills has passed into mount! Damn! Mills content just to control the position here. Mills postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Laws looks a forlorn figure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laws defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mills. Mills controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Laws is bucking up trying to escape but Mills cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mills lands a nice shot to the head. Mills takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Laws tries to hold on but Mills postures up. Laws might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mills haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Mills wants to get back to his feet but Laws is holding on tight.

Mills takes a kick to the side of the head. Mills has closed the distance and engaged Laws in a clinch.
Mills wants to take the fight to the mat but Laws manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Laws is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Mills is keeping busy. Mills successfully pulls guard.
Mills has his foot on Laws's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Laws works his way back into a safe position though. Mills had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Laws defends it easily. Laws throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mills works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mills wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mills is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mills looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Laws won't allow Mills to sweep him here. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Laws wants to control from the top but Mills keeps moving.

Steve Mills has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Laws looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Mills gets a double leg takedown into Laws's guard. Laws trying to control the position.
Mills trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Laws manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Mills has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Laws can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laws advances to half guard. Mills flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Laws not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Laws is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mills is just riding it out for now. Laws eventually gives up the hold. Mills is trying to control but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Laws seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mills does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Mills is controlling Laws's trapped leg to prevent Laws from advancing to side control. Mills trying to control from the bottom.
Laws is trying to control the action in half guard but Mills is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Mills gets back to full guard.
Mills looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Mills scores with a takedown into Laws's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Steve Mills showed his dominance in that final round. Well Mills has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
