The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smiths.
Smiths misses with a takedown attempt - Goldman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Smiths tries for a takedown but Goldman circles away easily
and Goldman counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jason Goldman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smiths.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Goldman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Goldman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Goldman wants to work for an arm triangle but Smiths is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Goldman is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Goldman uses his free foot to push down on Smiths's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Smiths.
