Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gerard Mclaughlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Spires (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gerard Mclaughlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Spires!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mclaughlin tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Spires manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Spires misses with a takedown

and Mclaughlin counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Mclaughlin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Spires avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Spires rushes Mclaughlin and presses him up against the cage.
Mclaughlin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Spires just stands there and leans against the cage.

Mclaughlin gets control of Spires's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mclaughlin will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mclaughlin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mclaughlin is pulling down on Spires's head to control his posture.
Spires trying to control the position from guard on top but Mclaughlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mclaughlin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Spires defends well.

Mclaughlin pulls Spires in close to his closed guard and prevents Spires from doing any damage or advancing position.
Spires stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mclaughlin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mclaughlin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mclaughlin really is a fat lump.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Austin Spires was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Spires fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Spires fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mclaughlin.
Spires takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Spires lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mclaughlin circles away quickly and effectively.
Mclaughlin closes the distance and clinches up with Spires, looking for a takedown. Mclaughlin pushes Spires against the cage but Spires circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mclaughlin tries to keep at a distance but Spires has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mclaughlin jumps guard.
Spires wants to control from the top but Mclaughlin keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mclaughlin is trying to keep Spires in close.
Spires trying to move into half guard but instead Mclaughlin has managed to sweep!

Spires controls Mclaughlin momentarily but Mclaughlin frees himself.

Spires is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mclaughlin defends well.
Spires will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Spires is trying to stand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mclaughlin is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Spires doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mclaughlin.
Mclaughlin content to control rather than advance.

That was a close round but I would say that Gerard Mclaughlin will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Mclaughlin gets a clinch.
Mclaughlin jumps guard but Spires stands there with Mclaughlin around his waist. Mclaughlin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Spires tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Spires jumps guard and drags Mclaughlin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Spires can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mclaughlin controls the pace.

Spires looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mclaughlin has picked Spires up and slammed him! Spires can't keep hold of the triangle and Mclaughlin manages to pass to side control!
Mclaughlin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Spires keeps working.

Mclaughlin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spires has escaped the position, nice work there.
Spires is trying to get back to half guard.

Mclaughlin is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Spires's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mclaughlin wants to stand but Spires has his arm trapped.

Spires is breathing heavily.

Mclaughlin decides to stand back up.

Mclaughlin darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Mclaughlin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mclaughlin is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Spires throws his legs up looking for a submission but Mclaughlin uses it to pass to side control.

Spires is trying to control Mclaughlin's posture but Mclaughlin avoids it.

Spires is trying to improve his position.
Gerard Mclaughlin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Spires wants to get back to his feet but Mclaughlin is dominant here and he's now got Spires's back!
Mclaughlin is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That's time! Mclaughlin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Spires avoids the head kick by Mclaughlin.
Spires shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mclaughlin pinned against the cage. Mclaughlin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mclaughlin takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Mclaughlin tried to score with a low kick but Spires checks it.
Mclaughlin throws a sloppy head kick and Spires moves out of range easily.
Spires shoots in looking for a takedown but Mclaughlin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Spires's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Mclaughlin pushes Spires up against the cage in a clinch.

Mclaughlin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Good leg kick by Spires there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
A punch combination from Mclaughlin misses.

Spires wants to clinch.
Mclaughlin slips a jab and a cross from Spires.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Spires.
Gerard Mclaughlin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Austin Spires.
Spires takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mclaughlin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spires tries to avoid it but Mclaughlin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spires to the ground. Spires escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Spires dives in for a single leg takedown but Mclaughlin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Spires has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Mclaughlin works to full guard.
Mclaughlin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Spires controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Can Spires hold on?! Mclaughlin is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mclaughlin lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Mclaughlin is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mclaughlin lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Spires hold on?!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mclaughlin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
