PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Caley white (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Serge Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Caley white!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Serge Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
white shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

white gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Carpenter is working for takedown but white is calmly controlling the position for now.
Carpenter has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. white is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Carpenter tries for a takedown. No joy.
Caley white has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Serge Carpenter.
white tries to stall but Carpenter uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

white manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
white manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carpenter manages to get himself to full guard.
white not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Carpenter looking for a guillotine here but white defends easily.
white wanted to stand there but Carpenter had control of the position.
Carpenter looking to hit a scissor sweep but white is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carpenter has his foot on white's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. white works his way back into a safe position though.
Carpenter looks gassed!
white pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Carpenter is keeping the position for now.
white controlling from the top position.
white has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carpenter is proving hard to escape from.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
white closes the distance and clinches up with Carpenter, looking for a takedown. white pushes Carpenter against the cage but Carpenter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

white gets in close and instigates a clinch.

white pulls guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Carpenter postures up.
Carpenter content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Carpenter trying to control but white is working from the bottom.

Carpenter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
white looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Carpenter wants to pass the guard but white is keeping the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carpenter trying to control but white is working from the bottom.
white wants to sweep here but Carpenter controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Carpenter tries to keep at a distance but white has taken the fight into the clinch.

white manages to break the clinch.
white pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Carpenter keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Carpenter throws a right hand that white ducks under and follows up with a left that white also avoids with ease.
white shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carpenter but Carpenter pushes him off and we're back to square one.
white throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
white tries for a takedown but Carpenter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
white stuffs the takedown attempt from Carpenter. Carpenter gets slowly back to his feet.
Carpenter wants to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
white shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Carpenter counters with a nice double leg into guard.
white might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
white keeping moving, preventing Carpenter from controlling successfully.
white doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Carpenter wants to pass the guard but white is keeping the position.
white working a defensive guard here.
Carpenter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
white looking for a sweep. Not yet white, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Serge Carpenter will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


white misses with a jab to the body

and Carpenter counters with a takedown into side control.
Carpenter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with white. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carpenter wants to lay and pray for a moment but white keeps working.
white can't do much from the bottom here.

white throws Carpenter to one side and escapes!
Carpenter circles away from the clinch attempt.
Serge Carpenter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

white forces Carpenter back against the cage and clinches.

white decides to pull guard.
Carpenter trying to control the position from guard on top but white is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Carpenter wants to pass the guard but white is keeping the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
white wants to sweep here but Carpenter controlling him for the moment.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carpenter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Carpenter is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

white manages to escape and get back to his feet.
No luck for Carpenter with that takedown attempt.

white closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

white seems to be working for a kimura but Carpenter defends the submission attempt.
Carpenter is staying active underneath white, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Carpenter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Carpenter is looking to control white's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Carpenter avoid being mounted?
Carpenter is looking for a sweep. white is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Carpenter moves out of range as white throws a body kick.
Carpenter fails with a takedown attempt.
white is looking to clinch but Carpenter is avoiding it.
white tries for a takedown but Carpenter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
white misses with a looping left.
Carpenter throws a right hand that white ducks under and follows up with a left that white also avoids with ease.

white clinches up with Carpenter and pushes him back against the cage.

Carpenter wants to pass the guard but white is keeping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
white is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
white tries to land a sweep but no joy.
white not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Carpenter trying to control but white is working from the bottom.
Carpenter working some strikes from top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
white misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Carpenter scores with a one two! white had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Caley white will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Carpenter scores a takedown into full mount!
white is desperately trying to improve his position but Carpenter has a good base and remains in mount.
white looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.
Carpenter throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Serge Carpenter has got the better of the ground game so far.
white gets back to half guard.
white trying to control but Carpenter postures up.
Carpenter throwing shots but white is blocking nicely.
Carpenter is trying to control the action in half guard but white is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Carpenter is thwarting white's attempts to control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

white regains full guard. Nicely done.
Carpenter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now white is on top in guard.
white trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
white looking to pass the guard.
Carpenter is pulling down on white's head. It's preventing any offense from white, at least for the moment.
Carpenter is trying to control the position but white postures up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

white decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
white scores with a head kick.
white throws a sloppy head kick and Carpenter moves out of range easily.

Carpenter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
white tries to buck Carpenter off but Carpenter is having none of it.
white gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
white keeping control of the position.

white is looking to escape.
white makes his way to full guard. A much better position for white.
white throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
white looking to hit a scissor sweep but Carpenter is one step ahead there.

Carpenter drops back, looking for a kneebar! white looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. white looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from white!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
white controlling from side mount.
Carpenter tries to buck white off but white is having none of it.

white is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carpenter has escaped the position, nice work there.
Carpenter wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Carpenter can't do much from the bottom here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Caley white.
I think white has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
