Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
28 - 43 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Jaromir Jag!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rowan Stevenson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevenson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jag swivels and escapes.
Stevenson feints and as Jag raises his hands in defense, Stevenson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Stevenson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Stevenson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Stevenson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Jag is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stevenson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jag wants to stand up but Stevenson is controlling him.
Stevenson advances to half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Stevenson works his way into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Stevenson controls the position from side control.
Stevenson looks up at the clock and then as Jag takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stevenson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The referee asks Stevenson politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Stevenson prefers to stall for the moment though.
Jag tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jag squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stevenson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stevenson scoring with strikes but Jag is staying in there.
Jag trying desperately to get to his feet.
Stevenson softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and Jag is out cold! Stevenson jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rowan Stevenson!
Rowan Stevenson is the new bantamweight champion!
