PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Conner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirk Huffman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mickey Conner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kirk Huffman!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Conner closes the distance and pushes Huffman back into the cage.
Conner keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Huffman's efforts to push away.
Huffman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Conner pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Conner breaks the clinch.
Huffman fails in his attempt to clinch.
Huffman avoids the head kick by Conner.
Huffman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Conner gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Huffman is trying to get back to his feet.
Huffman struggling a bit here.
Huffman tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Huffman throwing hammer fists to the chest of Conner. What's that going to do exactly?
Huffman is looking to improve his position but Conner isn't that keen on the idea.

Conner with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Conner looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Conner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Huffman tries to lock up and control but Conner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Huffman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Huffman is trying to stand.

Huffman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Conner seems to be working for a kimura but Huffman defends the submission attempt.

Conner tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Huffman.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Conner slips a nice elbow through Huffman's hands, connecting with Huffman's forehead.
Huffman wants to control but Conner is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Conner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Huffman on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Huffman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mickey Conner dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Huffman throws a sloppy head kick and Conner moves out of range easily.

Conner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Huffman's guard.
Conner is in close to Huffman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Huffman wants to improve his position but instead Conner has moved into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Conner connects with a nice short shot to Huffman's temple.
Huffman is looking to escape.

Huffman wants to improve his position but Conner is controlling well.

Conner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Huffman is breathing heavily.
Huffman is trying to stand back up but Conner is controlling him
Huffman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ground and pound from Conner.
Conner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Conner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Huffman defends it well.
Conner seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Conner not doing much here.
Conner wants to stand up but Huffman has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Conner is looking for submissions but instead, Huffman has regained full guard.
Conner has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Conner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Huffman's head.
Conner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Conner drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Huffman dives on top into guard.
Conner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Huffman is controlling him.

Conner pulls Huffman in close to his closed guard and prevents Huffman from doing any damage or advancing position.

Kirk Huffman has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Conner circles away from the clinch attempt.

Huffman darts in and clinches Conner up against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Huffman can't break the clinch.
Huffman misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Conner has Huffman pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Huffman manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Conner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Conner wants to clinch.

Conner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Conner lands in his opponent's guard.
Huffman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Conner trying to control but Huffman is working from the bottom.
Conner slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Huffman is desperately trying to improve his position but Conner has a good base and remains in mount.
Huffman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Conner lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Huffman wants to hold on but Conner pushes him away.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Conner, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
