Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joel Kinney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tim Vanbow! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kinney closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Vanbow's guard. Kinney throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Vanbow works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kinney wants to control from the top but Vanbow keeps moving. Vanbow is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Kinney works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kinney looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kinney is keen to just control but Vanbow is a slippery customer.
Joel Kinney has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Vanbow throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kinney sees it coming and avoids it easily. Tim Vanbow is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Kinney moves away from the strike by Vanbow. Kinney shoots in and bounces Vanbow off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Vanbow really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kinney. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kinney wants to pass the guard but Vanbow is keeping the position. Vanbow has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kinney seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Vanbow throws a jab when Kinney was well out of range. Kinney checks a low kick from Vanbow. Kinney could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Kinney shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vanbow as he avoids it easily. Kinney moves out of range as Vanbow strikes. Vanbow uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kinney.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kinney is looking to score with low kicks. Kinney has taken the fight to the clinch.
Vanbow prevents a body shot from Kinney. Kinney wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Kinney jumps into guard, dragging Vanbow to the mat.
Vanbow would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Vanbow engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Vanbow wants to stand and escape but instead Kinney has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kinney is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Vanbow tries to land a sweep but no joy. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Kinney trying to control the position from guard on top but Vanbow is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Joel Kinney has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Vanbow misses with a straight left. Kinney defending well as Vanbow loads up on a big left hand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joel Kinney dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Kinney changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vanbow tries to avoid it but Kinney manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vanbow to the ground. Vanbow escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Vanbow misses with an uppercut. Joel Kinney is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Kinney moves into the clinch. Kinney is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Vanbow pulls him back up using the underhooks. Kinney is looking to control Vanbow's arms but Vanbow gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kinney has his back to the cage. Kinney manages to pull guard.
Vanbow tries to stand but Kinney is controlling from the bottom. Vanbow must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kinney has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Vanbow doesn't defend quickly enough and Kinney has managed to lock this one up! Can Vanbow escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kinney on a fantastic submission victory.
