PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikel Mcgee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Kiss You-One Direction as his entrance music. Jon Jones will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikel Mcgee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones misses with an attempted mid kick.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Mcgee has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jones trying to stall but Mcgee improves his position.
Jones landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Mcgee stalls.
Jones pushes off an throws an elbow but Mcgee leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Jones tries for a takedown but Mcgee manages to get underhooks.
Jones tries to pull guard but Mcgee holds him up against the cage and eventually Jones drops back down to his feet.
Jones is trying to drag Mcgee to the mat but Mcgee just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mikel Mcgee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones.

Jones decides to pull guard.

Mcgee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mcgee missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Mcgee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jones throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

and Mcgee moves into the clinch.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mcgee just stands there and leans against the cage.
Mcgee has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Jones wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mcgee has him pressed against the cage.
Jones is trying to push Mcgee away but Mcgee has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Jones is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mcgee to keep the fight standing.
Mcgee tries for a takedown but Jones manages to get underhooks.

Mcgee has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mcgee pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Mcgee dives into Jones's guard.
Mcgee has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mcgee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones shoots in and drives through. Mcgee sprawls well.
Jones looks winded!

Mcgee shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mcgee lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Mcgee is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mcgee content to control rather than advance.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcgee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mcgee is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mcgee performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Mcgee tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mcgee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Mcgee feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Mcgee counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mcgee.

Jones fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Mcgee is controlling the position.
Jones on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Mcgee gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.

Mcgee ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mcgee no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Mcgee seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Mcgee takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Mcgee is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Jones can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Mcgee looking to finish Jones with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jones!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Mcgee throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mcgee is in Jones's guard.

Mcgee is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jones!

Jones takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Mcgee with shots to the head and body - Jones looks very uncomfortable down there.

Mcgee is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jones to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jones shrugs it off.

Mcgee lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mcgee prevents Jones from getting the reversal.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mcgee is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Mcgee extends the arm and Jones is forced to tap!
