Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sem Shilt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, King Faraday! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Joseph Jones and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faraday fails with a takedown attempt. Faraday doesn't succeed with the takedown and Shilt counters with a slapping leg kick. Faraday fails with the takedown and Shilt counters with an inside leg kick. Sem Shilt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of King Faraday. Shilt pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Faraday gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Faraday fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Faraday's coach down at MMA Warrior (1000$ / 15 Elite Coaches) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Faraday's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Faraday looking for a takedown here - he's got it. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Shilt is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Faraday is controlling him. Faraday is looking to pass into half guard but Shilt pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Shilt is in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shilt postures up and lands a big shot to Faraday's brow. Faraday is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Faraday escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shilt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Shilt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Faraday looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shilt is one step ahead there. Shilt looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Faraday looking for a sweep. Not yet Faraday, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shilt is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Faraday throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shilt stopping the sweep attempt from Faraday. Faraday escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shilt gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Faraday looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref stands the fighters back up because Sem Shilt just wasn't active enough. Faraday changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shilt tries to avoid it but Faraday manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shilt to the ground. Shilt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Faraday tries for a takedown but Shilt circles away easily and Shilt counters with a head kick that drops Faraday to the mat! Faraday scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
That's four minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Faraday with a poor takedown and Shilt counters with an outside leg kick.
We've been told by Shilt's head coaches at Trains: PIT Inc. that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Shilt throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Faraday tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shilt sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Faraday somewhat. Sem Shilt is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Faraday looks winded! Faraday avoids the head kick by Shilt.
Shilt lands a big head kick that sends Faraday tumbling to the mat! Shilt takes a step backwards and waves Faraday back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Faraday is rocked!
It looks like King Faraday has been cut. Faraday doesn't succeed with the takedown and Shilt counters with a lovely shot to the body. Faraday is still on wobbly legs! Can Shilt finish him? Shilt throws a nasty head kick that just misses. He throws another kick to the head of his opponent and almost takes it off! Faraday crumples to the floor and the fight is over!
