PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rafinha Capoeira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lithe Tarzan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Rafinha Capoeira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lithe Tarzan!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Ivan Kurochkin and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tarzan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Capoeira pinned against the cage. Capoeira gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Tarzan uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Capoeira.

Tarzan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Tarzan wants to control but Capoeira is keeping him busy.
Capoeira dodges the ground and pound from Tarzan.

Capoeira on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Capoeira tries to get out of the position.
Tarzan prevents Capoeira from escaping the position.
Capoeira knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tarzan on the ground.

Tarzan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tarzan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Tarzan creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Tarzan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

The ground and pound from Tarzan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Tarzan is working for a submission of some sort.
Tarzan is trying to control. Capoeira wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tarzan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Capoeira has hold of Tarzan's hands but Tarzan slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Tarzan throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Capoeira to regain full guard.
Tarzan stands and throws Capoeira's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Tarzan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
You can see the frustration on Capoeira's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Capoeira avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Tarzan.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lithe Tarzan dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Tarzan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Capoeira as he jumps to the side.

Tarzan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Capoeira's guard.

Tarzan is looking to work some ground and pound but Capoeira has wrist control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Capoeira takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Tarzan has hold of Capoeira's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Capoeira tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Tarzan cranks the arm and Capoeira screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Capoeira, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Lithe Tarzan!
Lithe Tarzan decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
