Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Akihiro Shirasu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Shogun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mauricio Shogun will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akihiro Shirasu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mauricio Shogun! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shirasu closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shogun's guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Shogun avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Shogun working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shirasu doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shirasu manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Shirasu stays in close to Shogun's body and controls the position. That's one minute gone in the round. Shirasu sitting in guard here, content to control. Shirasu postures up in Shogun's guard and throws a big left but Shogun blocks it. Shirasu tries to free his leg and advance position but Shogun is retaining full guard. Shogun lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Shirasu! Shogun wants to stand but Shirasu is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Shirasu is working hard here to advance position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shogun wants to control the pace but Shirasu is squirming around nicely. Shirasu wants to control but Shogun is having none of it. Shirasu can't escape the position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Shogun has an active guard here but Shirasu has managed to pass into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shirasu has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Shogun works to full guard. Shogun can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shirasu controls the pace. Shogun throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shirasu lands a couple of elbows. Shirasu stays in close to Shogun's body and controls the position. Shirasu throws a strike but Shogun rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Shogun trying to control the position from guard on top but Shirasu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Akihiro Shirasu dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Shirasu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shirasu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Shirasu working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Shogun tries to buck Shirasu off but Shirasu is having none of it. Shirasu taking a breather here. Shirasu has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Shirasu politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Shirasu prefers to stall for the moment though. Shirasu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shogun has escaped the position, nice work there. Shogun tries to buck Shirasu off but Shirasu is having none of it. Shogun is still trying to improve position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shirasu remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Shirasu's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Shirasu wants to stand but Shogun is controlling his arm. Shirasu cracks Shogun with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Shogun throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Shogun doesn't manage to clinch there - Shirasu circles away.
Shirasu shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shogun manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Shirasu slips nicely into half guard. Shirasu trying to control the pace. Shirasu works his foot free and advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shogun wants to hold on but Shirasu pushes him away. Shirasu controlling from mount. Shogun is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Shirasu moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Shogun has worked his arm free - good work by Shogun!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Akihiro Shirasu. Shirasu stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Shogun. Shogun fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shirasu. Shirasu keeps the fight on the outside. Shogun has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Shirasu is landing a low percentage of strikes. Shirasu stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Shogun. Akihiro Shirasu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A nice leg kick lands there from Shogun. Shogun tries to clinch there but Shirasu circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Shogun is looking to slow Shirasu down with leg kicks. Shogun lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Shirasu doesn't manage to clinch there - Shogun circles away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Shogun is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Shogun lands with a thumping leg kick.
Shirasu shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Shogun is trying to defend but Shirasu finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Shirasu controlling the action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Shirasu seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Shogun for as long as he can get away with.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Akihiro Shirasu. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shirasu, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
