PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Laprise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Laprise!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andre Bishop!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laprise stuffs the takedown attempt from Bishop. Bishop gets slowly back to his feet.
Bishop tries to clinch but Laprise moves away

and Laprise counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Bishop is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Laprise wants to control from the top but Bishop keeps moving.
Bishop is trying to control the position but Laprise postures up.
Bishop looking to hit a scissor sweep but Laprise is one step ahead there.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Andre Bishop wasn't active enough on the ground.

Laprise throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bishop tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Laprise is in Bishop's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bishop wants to sweep here but Laprise controlling him for the moment.
Bishop controls Laprise momentarily but Laprise frees himself.

Laprise has gone for a leg lock! Bishop slips out almost immediately though and dives into Laprise's guard.
Bishop would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Laprise can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bishop controls the pace.
Laprise on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Laprise tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Andre Bishop was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Bishop shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Bishop showed some decent athleticism there.

Bishop thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Bishop tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Laprise.

Bishop seems to be working for a kimura but Laprise defends the submission attempt.

Bishop is looking to take a break and control but Laprise is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Laprise tries to lock up and control but Bishop gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Bishop lands a couple of good shots and Laprise has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Bishop's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

Bishop keeps control of the position easily here as Laprise tries to buck him off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bishop goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Laprise escapes and is now in half guard on top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Bishop dominated that round.
That's time! Laprise's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Laprise checks a leg kick nicely.
Laprise shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bishop defends it nicely.
Bishop misses with a body kick.
Laprise fails with the takedown.
Laprise could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A combination from Bishop does no damage.

Laprise manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bishop on his heels. He'll look to pass Bishop's guard now, I'm sure.
Laprise has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Laprise looking to sit in guard and control but Bishop gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bishop is looking to stand up but Laprise won't let him.

Bishop controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bishop wants to get up but he can't break Laprise's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Laprise knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bishop on the ground.
Bishop trying to control the position from guard on top but Laprise is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bishop might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Laprise haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Andre Bishop hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Laprise fails with the takedown

Laprise looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Bishop struggles to land a body shot inside as Laprise controls his hands.

Laprise has picked Bishop up - he's going for a ride! Laprise dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Bishop is trying to maintain the position but Laprise is very close to passing his half guard.

Bishop wants to get back to his feet but Laprise is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Laprise is looking to work some ground and pound but Bishop has wrist control.
Laprise looking to sit in guard and control but Bishop gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Laprise is looking for a triangle but Bishop pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Andre Bishop will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Laprise is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bishop's half guard.
Bishop is pressing down on Laprise's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Laprise is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Bishop is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Bishop has escaped and now he's on top!

We're going to have a standup here because Pierre Laprise wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bishop looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Laprise changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bishop tries to avoid it but Laprise manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bishop to the ground. Bishop escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bishop throws a head kick but Laprise moves out of range.

Bishop is taking a breather. Laprise says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Bishop seems to be looking for submissions.

Bishop passes the guard and advances to mount!
Bishop landing strikes from the mount and Laprise is in trouble!

Let's hope that Bishop has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Andre Bishop comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bishop has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
