Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Simon Kanitz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 13 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eddie Penn! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kanitz with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kanitz connects with a high kick. Simon Kanitz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Penn takes a kick to the side of the head. Kanitz connects with a crisp jab. Kanitz throws a head kick that misses. Kanitz slips a jab from Penn. Penn takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Kanitz fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Penn shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Kanitz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Penn controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn with a nice head shot there. Kanitz keeping full guard, as Penn tries to pass. Penn is pushing down on Kanitz's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kanitz is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through. Penn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kanitz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground. Kanitz tries to roll over but Penn keeps him under control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn is taking a breather. Kanitz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Kanitz is trying to stand.
Penn is trying for a kimura here. Kanitz looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Penn wins by kimura!
