Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rickson Gracie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Avery Carter! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carter misses with a takedown attempt and Gracie counters with a left and a right that stings Carter. Carter gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Carter regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Gracie. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Gracie content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Carter throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Carter trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gracie postures up in Carter's guard and throws a big left but Carter blocks it. Gracie postures up.
Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Carter is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Gracie trying to control but Carter is working from the bottom. Carter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Gracie sitting in guard, not really doing much. Gracie works over Carter with some ground and pound from guard. Gracie throws a big right hand that misses. We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Carter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gracie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carter working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gracie. Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position. Carter keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully. Carter preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Carter is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Gracie is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Rickson Gracie has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Carter tries to clinch and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carter won't be happy with that. Gracie has hold of Carter's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Carter seems comfortable defending it but Gracie has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Carter is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Carter is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gracie couldn't care less - he's delighted!
