Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Delmar Robbins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Harrison! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robbins just misses with a punch to the body.
Harrison leaves Robbins with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Nice takedown defense from Robbins. No joy for Harrison on that attempt. Robbins fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Harrison avoids it really well and circles away. Robbins stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Robbins wants it to stay on the feet. The fight moves into the clinch position. Harrison has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Robbins is trying to keep an underhook but Harrison manages to get the takedown into half guard. Harrison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Robbins keeps working. Harrison not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harrison not landing any meaningful shots this time. Harrison is pressing down on Robbins's thigh, looking to free his foot. Robbins is holding on for now. Robbins is looking to escape. Harrison is trying to control. Robbins wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Harrison throwing shots but Robbins is blocking nicely. Robbins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Harrison is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Robbins is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Harrison has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Robbins is trying desperately to improve position. Harrison lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Robbins that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Harrison fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Robbins is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Robbins really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A nice elbow there by Harrison. Harrison with the ground and pound from mount. Harrison landing strikes from the mount. Robbins tries to hold on but Harrison pushes him away. A nice elbow there by Harrison. Harrison dominating with strikes here. Harrison looking to finish Robbins with some ground and pound. This is bad for Robbins! Harrison pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robbins wants to hold on but Harrison pushes him away. Harrison landing strikes from the mount. Harrison controlling his opponent. Harrison working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Robbins is rocked! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harrison looking to isolate an arm here. Robbins doesn't see it coming and as Harrison extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Harrison!
