PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ichabod Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buffy Slayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, ROCK THE NIGHT. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ichabod Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Buffy Slayer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crane throws a lazy right hand but Slayer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ichabod Crane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Crane shoots in for a double leg but Slayer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Crane throws a poor cross that misses

and Slayer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Crane looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Slayer being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Crane misses with a body shot

so Slayer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crane bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Slayer's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crane tries to free his leg and advance position but Slayer is retaining full guard.
Slayer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Crane controls the pace.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ichabod Crane wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Crane shoots for a takedown but Slayer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Crane swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Crane. That snapped Slayer's head back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crane just misses with a punch to the body.
Crane misses the jab.
Crane misses with a body shot

and Slayer counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Crane's guard now.
Crane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Slayer wants to get up but he can't break Crane's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Buffy Slayer has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Crane moves to clinch but Slayer breaks away

and Slayer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Crane has Slayer pulled in close to control his posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Crane is on top in guard.
Slayer is looking to stand up but Crane isn't so interested in that idea.
Crane is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Ichabod Crane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Crane catches Slayer with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Horrible takedown by Crane or perhaps it was just good defense by Slayer which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ichabod Crane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Crane tries to close the distance and clinch up but Slayer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Buffy Slayer will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Crane fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Slayer manages to avoid it.
A big right from Crane misses.
Crane misses with a lunging right hand

and Slayer decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Crane's guard.
Slayer tries to stand but Crane is controlling from the bottom.
Crane wants to improve his position but instead Slayer has moved into half guard.
Crane wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slayer is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
We've been hearing good reports from Crane's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Buffy Slayer hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Crane cracks Slayer with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Slayer takes one on the button.
Crane tries for a takedown but Slayer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A looping hook to the body misses from Crane. Slayer does a little dance to reset his feet.
Crane misses with a left hand

and Slayer counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Slayer is thwarting Crane's attempts to control the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Slayer takes one on the button.
Crane throws an off balance right hand

and Slayer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Crane is looking to sweep but instead, Slayer has passed into half guard.
Crane trying to control but Slayer postures up.
Buffy Slayer has got the better of the ground game so far.
Crane has a hand on Slayer's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Slayer takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Crane is looking to get to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Crane is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Slayer wants to get back to his feet but Crane is holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buffy Slayer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Slayer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Crane is proving hard to escape from.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Slayer wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Crane uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Buffy Slayer was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Slayer moves out of range of the strikes.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Crane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Slayer defends it nicely.

Crane gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Crane working aggressively here.
Crane has a couple of punches blocked by Slayer.

Slayer wants the takedown. Crane is fighting it off but Slayer persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Crane's guard against the cage.
Slayer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Crane is proving hard to escape from.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Buffy Slayer wasn't active enough on the ground.
Crane is looking to clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Crane connects with a jab.
Crane looks for a takedown but Slayer sprawls well.
A jab from Crane misses.
Crane shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slayer as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ichabod Crane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crane wants to clinch up but Slayer keeps it at a distance.
Slayer keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Crane.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Crane misses with an uppercut

so Slayer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ichabod Crane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Crane is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Buffy Slayer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Slayer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Buffy Slayer started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
