Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paco Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Spong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez's entrance music is La Puerta Negra. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Spong!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez jabs Spong right on the nose. Spong blinks but takes it well.
A combination from Spong does no damage.
Spong throws a series of punches but Mendez moves out of range.
Both fighters circling a little - Spong finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Mendez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Spong.
Oooooh!!! Mendez has knocked Spong down with a huge combo! Mendez steps away and waves a wobbly Spong back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Spong is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A slow jab from Mendez misses its intended target.
Spong is still on wobbly legs! Can Mendez finish him?
Mendez connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Spong to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Mendez!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Paco Mendez!
Paco Mendez decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
