PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dreadlock Rasta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and average joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rasta comes to the cage accompanied by Buffalo Soldier. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dreadlock Rasta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, average joe! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rasta gets in close and instigates a clinch. Rasta looking to stall.
joe decides to pull guard. Rasta is fighting to break joe's control of his arms but joe is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. joe is looking to stand up but Rasta isn't so interested in that idea. joe has his hands on Rasta's head, controlling the position. Rasta gets to his feet - joe follows without any prompting. Rasta tries to close the distance and clinch but joe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rasta has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rasta lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Rasta drags the fight down to the ground.
Rasta trying to keep a closed guard but joe is proving a slippery customer.
joe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Rasta wriggles free and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. joe gets in close and instigates a clinch. joe is pressed up against the cage. Rasta has hold of a leg and is looking to drag joe down to the mat. joe avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Dreadlock Rasta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rasta tries to clinch but joe moves away and joe counters by moving into the clinch. Rasta prevents a takedown attempt there.
joe tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rasta just stands there and leans against the cage. joe lands a body shot in the clinch.
joe gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rasta.
Rasta is trying to maintain a safe position but joe gets an underhook and turns Rasta into the cage. joe manages to break the clinch.
joe scores with a takedown into Rasta's guard. joe content to stall in guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that joe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Rasta is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst joe is controlling him. joe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Rasta will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Rasta pushes joe off and gets back to his feet.
joe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Rasta! Rasta is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rasta tries to reverse the position but joe maintains control. joe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rasta. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. joe trying to control but he's not successful this time. joe tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. joe wants to control the pace but Rasta is squirming around nicely. joe lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rasta hang on? Rasta is in a horrible position here. joe smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Rasta is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Rasta is in all sorts of trouble here.
Rasta is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
joe trying to control but he's not successful this time. joe in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
joe looking to control and managing it successfully. joe postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Rasta looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
average joe dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Rasta with a lazy takedown attempt and joe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by joe. Rasta keeping moving, preventing joe from controlling successfully. Rasta wants to get back to his feet but joe is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. joe looking to sit in guard and control but Rasta gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. joe wants to stand up but Rasta is controlling him. joe pulls Rasta in close to prevent any damage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. joe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rasta is one step ahead there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. joe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rasta's guard. joe sitting in guard here, content to control. joe passes into half guard. joe prevents Rasta from standing back up.
joe looks to score some points with some ground and pound. joe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
joe wants to take a breather but Rasta is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rasta is trying to get back to full guard. joe is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. joe prevents Rasta from standing back up.

Despite being in the dominant position, average joe just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rasta fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Rasta takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. joe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - joe lands in his opponent's guard. joe content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. joe tries to free his leg and advance position but Rasta is retaining full guard. Rasta keeping moving, preventing joe from controlling successfully. Rasta escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. joe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. joe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rasta is keeping the position for now. joe decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Rasta gets caught flat footed, as joe shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Rasta tries to land a sweep but no joy. joe wants to control from the top but Rasta keeps moving. joe prevents Rasta from getting back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
average joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Rasta shoots in for a takedown but joe shows good takedown defense. Rasta looks to clinch and joe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Rasta is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Rasta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. joe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. joe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rasta swivels though and keeps the full guard. joe is looking to stand up but Rasta won't let him. joe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. joe throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Rasta's head. Rasta tries to grapple but his opponent circles and joe decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rasta's guard. joe controls the pace of the fight for a moment. average joe has got the better of the ground game so far. Rasta keeping moving, preventing joe from controlling successfully. joe prevents Rasta from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rasta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. joe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. joe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Rasta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. joe is looking to work some ground and pound but Rasta has wrist control. joe gets to his feet. Rasta looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! joe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. joe advances nicely into full mount. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. joe with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
joe cracks Rasta with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rasta is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rasta is working to get back to half guard.
joe wants to control the pace but Rasta is squirming around nicely. Rasta is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Rasta is looking to get to half guard. joe can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rasta is looking to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. joe looking to control and managing it successfully. Rasta wants to get back to his feet.
joe wants to finish this one by submission but Rasta is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from joe. A nice elbow there by joe.
And that's the end of the fight! average joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
