Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Pereira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bentley Downer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pereira comes to the cage accompanied by Method Man ft Redman - Da Rockwilder. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bentley Downer!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pereira throws a body kick that misses
and Downer holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Pereira using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Downer has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
We've been hearing reports that Pereira has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Pereira tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Downer smiles and moves away.

Downer told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
Pereira is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Downer to keep the fight standing.

Pereira drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pereira jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pereira misses with a takedown attempt - Downer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Alex Pereira will probably get the nod.
