Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Matheus Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santos is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cidinho & Doca - Rap Das Armas. Matheus Alves has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Santos!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves closes the distance and pushes Santos back into the cage.

Alves breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Santos did well to prevent Alves getting side control.
Alves is thwarting Santos's attempts to control the position.

Alves is looking for a kimura but Santos is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alves to get the leverage.

Santos misses with a takedown attempt - Alves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Matheus Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruno Santos.

Alves shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Santos's guard.
Alves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Santos wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Santos has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Santos in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Alves tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Santos!
