Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steven Weiss!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weiss fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Penn, pushing him back against the cage.
Weiss pressing his opponent against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Weiss.
Weiss trying to land knees to the body.
Penn is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Weiss gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Weiss putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Penn in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Weiss misses with a punch to the body.
Weiss unloads a knee to the mid-section. Penn lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Weiss stalls.
Weiss looking to throw knees to the head but Penn is blocking nicely.
Weiss connects with a nasty looking knee right to Penn's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Weiss tries to land a knee to the head but Penn blocks with his arms.
Weiss trying to control the position but instead, Penn has worked for underhooks and has pushed Weiss into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weiss lands an elbow just above Penn 's eye.


It looks like Jay Penn has been cut.
Weiss misses with a knee to the head.
Penn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Weiss gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Weiss scores with a knee to the head.
Weiss doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Knees in the clinch landing for Weiss.

Penn successfully pulls guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Penn looking for a guillotine here but Weiss defends easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Penn bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weiss's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Penn missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Penn is looking to work some ground and pound but Weiss has wrist control.
Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Penn prevents Weiss from getting back to his feet.
Penn controls from within his opponent's guard.
Weiss keeping moving, preventing Penn from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Penn works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn content to control rather than advance.
Penn has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Penn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Weiss is trying to control but Penn manages to pass to mount!
Penn postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Weiss looks a forlorn figure.
Penn moves to the back position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Penn has the hooks in. Weiss is starting to panic. He's trying to push off one of the legs but he's left his neck open to attack. Penn passes his arm under Weiss's neck and tightens up a rear naked choke! This one is surely all over! Yes, Weiss taps!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Penn!
