Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Rijkaard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Markakis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Rijkaard!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Markakis.
Markakis throws a nice looking combination but Rijkaard bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Markakis lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Markakis.

Markakis clinches up with Rijkaard and pushes him back against the cage.
Markakis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Markakis is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Rijkaard manages to break the clinch.
Some wild striking there from Markakis.
Markakis ducks under a wild hook from Rijkaard.
Markakis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rijkaard uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Markakis lands with a good body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sloppy strikes from Markakis. Those never looked like landing.
Markakis throws a right hand that Rijkaard ducks under and follows up with a left that Rijkaard also avoids with ease.

Markakis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rijkaard throws a shot from downtown. Markakis moves away and avoids it.
Markakis throws a leg kick that misses.
Markakis throws a series of strikes that have Rijkaard backpedaling.
Markakis falls off balance throwing a combination

so Rijkaard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Markakis is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rijkaard has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Markakis is proving hard to escape from.
Rijkaard is looking to advance position but Markakis has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
BOOM! Markakis connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Rijkaard in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rijkaard wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Markakis.
Markakis thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Rijkaard tries to reverse the position but Markakis maintains control.
Rijkaard is squirming around, avoiding Markakis's attempts to control the action.
Markakis thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Rijkaard tries to hold on but Markakis pushes him away.
Rijkaard really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Markakis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rijkaard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Markakis decides to stand up.
Markakis lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Markakis tries to bum rush Rijkaard with a series of wild strikes but Rijkaard uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Rijkaard misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Markakis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rijkaard circles away quickly and effectively.
A combination from Markakis does no damage.
Rijkaard tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Markakis misses with a two punch combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Markakis tries to work over Rijkaard's front leg with a kick but Rijkaard checks it.
Markakis scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


Rijkaard is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Markakis closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Rijkaard! Markakis dives in looking to finish! Rijkaard is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nick Markakis!
