Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trevor Philips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jim Howard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trevor Philips! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Philips misses with a takedown and Howard counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Philips wants to get back to full guard. Philips should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Howard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Philips is just riding it out for now. Howard eventually gives up the hold. Howard postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Philips to stand up. Philips moves out of range of the body kick. Howard throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Philips is defended easily by Howard. Howard closes the distance and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Philips jumps guard but Howard turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Jim Howard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Trevor Philips. Philips is trying to drag Howard to the mat but Howard just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Philips escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Philips blocks the body kick.
Philips fails with an attempt to clinch.
Philips scores with a kick to the midsection. Howard fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Howard clinches up against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Howard with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Howard has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Philips uses from the top position. Howard looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Howard is looking to cinch up a triangle. Philips throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Howard's body to avoid the submission. Howard has instead reached around Philips's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Howard arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jim Howard!
