The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson gets a takedown into half guard. Johnson is working for a submission of some sort.
Marlin is looking to improve his position.
Marlin is working hard here to advance position. Marlin gets full guard. Marlin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Marlin working for a triangle but Johnson defends it easily.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Marlin has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Marlin can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Johnson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marlin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Johnson. Johnson seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Marlin is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). James Johnson!
