PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Costco Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Steve Anderson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Costco Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson closes the distance and clinches up with Brown, looking for a takedown. Anderson pushes Brown against the cage but Brown circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Anderson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Brown is looking to reverse the position.
Brown is working hard here to advance position.

Anderson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Brown has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Brown's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Anderson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Anderson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Brown!

Anderson working for a guillotine from mount but Brown is in no mood to give up.
Brown regains half guard.
Brown tries to get to full guard but Anderson has control of the leg.
Anderson trying to control from half guard but Brown is working away.
Anderson trying to mount his opponent but Brown defends it.

Anderson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Anderson looks gassed!

Brown pushes Anderson off and gets back to his feet.
Brown shoots and misses

and Anderson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Brown won't be happy with that.
Anderson working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Brown is not content to let Anderson control the position.

Anderson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Brown sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Anderson throws a strike but Brown avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Brown is trying to keep Anderson in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brown is looking for a triangle but Anderson pushes his legs off easily.

Anderson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Brown looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Brown looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Brown!
Brown in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anderson is trying to control Brown's posture but Brown avoids it.
Anderson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brown wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Anderson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Brown's best efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anderson is trying to get back to full guard.
Anderson manages to get to full guard.
Brown wants to stand but Anderson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Anderson dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Anderson tries to keep at a distance but Brown has taken the fight into the clinch.
Brown tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Anderson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Anderson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Brown smiles and moves away.
Brown wants to land a leg kick but Anderson is out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Anderson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Anderson trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.

Anderson advances to half guard.
Anderson is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Anderson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Anderson avoids the attempt from Brown to control.
Anderson prevents Brown from getting the reversal.
Brown avoids a series of strikes thrown by Anderson.
Anderson scoring with strikes but Brown is staying in there.

Anderson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Brown can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Anderson looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Brown really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Anderson lands a big elbow.

Anderson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Brown is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Brown and Anderson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Brown parries the strikes from Anderson easily there. Anderson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Brown to escape.

Anderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Brown has escaped the position, nice work there.
Brown is not content to let Anderson control the position.
Brown is looking to regain half guard here but Anderson keeps moving and retains side control.
Steve Anderson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Anderson cracks Brown with a big right hand but Brown just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Brown sneaks back into half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Anderson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Anderson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Anderson is working for a submission of some sort.

Brown is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Anderson pulls his head out easily.

Anderson seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Anderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Brown with a lazy takedown attempt

and Anderson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Brown is looking to stand up but Anderson isn't so interested in that idea.
Anderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Anderson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.

Anderson stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Anderson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Anderson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Anderson wants to control the pace but Brown is squirming around nicely.

Anderson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Brown turns into him and now he's in Anderson's guard.
Anderson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brown is one step ahead there.
Brown advances position into side control!
Brown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Anderson keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Anderson sneaks back into half guard.
Anderson regains full guard. Nicely done.
Anderson is trying to keep Brown in close.
Anderson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Anderson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Anderson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Anderson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brown gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Anderson is looking to sweep but instead, Brown has passed into half guard.

Anderson looking for submissions off his back.
Anderson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brown is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Anderson is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Brown pulls his head out easily.
Anderson tries to roll over but Brown keeps him under control.
Costco Brown has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brown passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Anderson!
Anderson is desperately trying to improve his position but Brown has a good base and remains in mount.
Anderson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Anderson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Anderson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
