Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, NaKai Mariner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mariner is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Mariner circles away and we're back to standing. Jones tries for a takedown but Mariner sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Mariner cracks Jones with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Mariner tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance. Jones misses with a two punch combination.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones. NaKai Mariner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones. Good shot there by Mariner. Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Mariner, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Mariner against the cage but Mariner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Mariner misses with the combination.

That's one minute gone in the round. Jones tries to clinch up. Mariner fails in his attempt to clinch. Jones uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Mariner. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Mariner crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Jones - the referee stops the clock and Mariner gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Jones. Mariner manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Jones clinches up with Mariner and pushes him back against the cage. Nice body punch from Mariner - that landed with a thud.
Jones blocks an elbow strike. Jones is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mariner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Mariner working hard to break the clinch. Mariner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Jones thows a body shot but no joy. Mariner drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks winded! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Mariner tries to score with some ground and pound. Jones controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mariner wants to stand but Jones has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard. The fighters are working up against the cage. Jones manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Mariner looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Jones goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mariner prevents it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Jones. Mariner throws an elbow but it misses.
Mariner is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him. Mariner wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage. A punch combination from Jones misses. Jones thows a body kick. Mariner tries to catch it but that hurt him. Jones slips a jab and a cross from Mariner.
Jones tries to clinch but Mariner moves out of range. Mariner goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Mariner swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mariner tries a low kick but Jones avoids it. Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jones wants to clinch and Mariner counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Mariner to acknowledge the strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
NaKai Mariner dominated that round. That's time! Mariner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Mariner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Mariner does a little dance to reset his feet. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Mariner. Mariner shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side. Mariner ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Jones dives in and grabs Mariner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mariner pushes down on Jones's head and hops out. Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Mariner sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. NaKai Mariner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Jones. Mariner fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Jones on the side of the head. Jones misses with a takedown and Mariner cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Jones is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jones looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Jones is rocked! Jones tries to clinch up and Mariner counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). NaKai Mariner! Jon Jones spoke after the fight, saying 'sorry for all my fans and i came stronger...'.
