PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Adam Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dean Larson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dean Larson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kane misses with the combination.

Kane moves into the clinch successfully.

Larson drags the fight down to the ground.
Kane tries to free his leg and advance position but Larson is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Larson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Larson is trying to work for a kimura but Kane is defending well.
Larson is pressing down on Kane's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kane is holding on for now.

Larson shoots for a double leg takedown but Kane sprawls well. He's pushed Larson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Larson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Kane misses with a body kick.
Kane throws a quick inside leg kick.
Kane lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Kane throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kane with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Kane has closed the distance and engaged Larson in a clinch.
Kane is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Larson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Kane successfully pulls guard.
Larson wants to control from the top but Kane keeps moving.

Kane has his foot on Larson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Larson works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Larson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Larson.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kane scores with a crisp jab that stopped Larson in his tracks.

Larson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kane is trying to control but Larson passes into side control!

Larson cracks Kane with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Kane manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Larson works his way into side control.

Larson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Larson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Kane tries to control Larson's body but Larson pushes him off. Kane squirms to his side and now Larson has his back!

Larson is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Dean Larson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

and Kane counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Larson's guard now.

Kane really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kane drops back, looking for a kneebar! Larson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Larson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Larson!
Kane tries to bench press Larson off him but Larson keeps the position.

Larson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Larson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kane tries to improve position but can't.
Larson landing strikes.
Kane is not content to let Larson control the position.
Kane sneaks back into half guard.
Kane throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Larson doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kane counters with a nice double leg into side control. Larson won't be happy with that.

Larson is looking to reverse the position.
Kane landing a few strikes.
Larson stops Kane from passing to mount.
Kane misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Kane tries to score with some ground and pound. Larson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The strikes coming from Kane are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Kane wants to stand up but Larson is controlling him.

and Larson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Larson, pushing him back against the cage.

Larson wants the takedown. Kane is fighting it off but Larson persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kane's guard against the cage.
Larson stays in close to Kane's body and controls the position.
Kane is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kane is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kane lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Adam Kane.
I think Larson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
