PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kaito Saruwatari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alejandro Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saruwatari comes to the cage accompanied by Guerilla Radio. Zapata has chosen Tres Delinquentes as his entrance music. Kaito Saruwatari could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Alejandro Zapata's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaito Saruwatari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alejandro Zapata!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saruwatari looks to land a left hand but Zapata moved out of range nicely.
Zapata throws a lazy right hand but Saruwatari sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Zapata swinging wildly here.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Zapata has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Zapata throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Saruwatari's waist but Saruwatari gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zapata off to one side.
Zapata throws a shot to the body.
We've been told by Saruwatari's head coaches at >TAPOUT ELITE< that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Zapata tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Saruwatari is able to avoid easily.
Zapata does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Zapata clobbers Saruwatari with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Kaito Saruwatari seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zapata digs a good body shot into Saruwatari's ribs.
A combination from Saruwatari does no damage.
Zapata throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Zapata moves out of range of the strikes.
Saruwatari lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Zapata jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Saruwatari looks to land a combination but Zapata avoids it well.
Zapata takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Saruwatari throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Zapata.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Zapata counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Saruwatari's guard now.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Zapata drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Zapata jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Saruwatari is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Zapata wants to pass the guard but Saruwatari is keeping the position.

Saruwatari wants to stand and escape but Zapata is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Zapata shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Zapata was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Zapata tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zapata has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Saruwatari is trying to buck Zapata off.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Saruwatari tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Zapata wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Zapata creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Zapata seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Saruwatari does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Saruwatari pulls Zapata in close to his closed guard and prevents Zapata from doing any damage or advancing position.

Zapata is pushing down on Saruwatari's leg trying to pass to half guard. Saruwatari is fighting to maintain full guard but Zapata has managed to sneak the leg through.

Zapata passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Saruwatari!
Zapata postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Saruwatari looks a forlorn figure.

Alejandro Zapata showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
