Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Parish Thumbkin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burley Haines! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thumbkin slips a straight right by Haines. Haines ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thumbkin moves away. Thumbkin swings for the body but Haines moves out of range.
Thumbkin shoots in and gets a takedown into Haines's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Haines is looking for a triangle but Thumbkin pushes his legs off easily.
Haines wants to sweep here but Thumbkin controlling him for the moment. Thumbkin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Thumbkin has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Haines preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Haines is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Thumbkin tries to get to full guard but Haines has control of the leg. Thumbkin keeping control of the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thumbkin is trying to maintain the position but Haines is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thumbkin landing a few short strikes. Haines wants to take a breather but Thumbkin is having none of it. Haines passes to side control. Thumbkin is not content to let Haines control the position. Haines has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Thumbkin is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Haines yanks on the arm and Thumbkin is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Haines.
