Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gregorio Reese! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carls Classic! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reese throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Classic tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Reese is in Classic's guard. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Reese wants to stand but Classic has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Reese controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Reese stopping the sweep attempt from Classic. Classic working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reese doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reese manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Classic bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reese's guard. Classic won't allow Reese to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Classic showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Reese is adopting a defensive guard. Reese on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Reese tries to get out of the position. Classic is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Classic trying to control but Reese is working from the bottom.
Carls Classic has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Classic stuffs the takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reese blocks the body kick.
Reese clinches. Reese manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Reese not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Classic trying to control but Reese is working from the bottom. Reese working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Classic has passed into half guard!
Classic throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Reese is holding on to half guard well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Classic content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Reese knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Classic on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reese preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Reese really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Classic is looking to advance position but Reese won't allow it. Classic trying to advance position but Reese counters by regaining guard. Classic wants to control from the top but Reese keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Classic looking to sit in guard and control but Reese gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Classic is pulling down on Reese's head to control his posture. Classic looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Reese landing with the ground and pound. A close round but Carls Classic will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Classic fails with a takedown attempt. Classic with a poor takedown and Reese counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Classic's guard now. Classic trying to keep a closed guard but Reese is proving a slippery customer.
Classic keeping moving, preventing Reese from controlling successfully. Classic is looking for a triangle here but Reese uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Classic is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Reese is controlling the pace.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reese passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Classic! Reese sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Classic can't escape the position.
Reese avoids the attempt from Classic to control. Gregorio Reese overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. You get the feeling that Classic really doesn't like being in this position too much.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Reese has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Classic has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Classic is trying to remain composed but Reese is hammering down strikes to the side of his head. Classic is trying to stand back up. Classic fending off the submission attempt from Reese. Classic fending off the submission attempt from Reese.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Classic trying to get back to his feet but Reese is in full control for now. Reese has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Classic has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Gregorio Reese dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Classic wants to control but Reese is keeping busy.
Reese controlling the pace. Reese tries to pass the half guard into mount. Classic knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Classic has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Reese is working away from the top position though. Classic might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Reese haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Classic is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Reese is staying active.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Carls Classic was stalling too much, according to the referee. Reese throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Classic was covering up waiting for the punch and Reese finishes the takedown easily into guard. Reese will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Classic escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reese gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Classic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Classic striking off his back but it's not causing Reese any problems. Reese has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reese stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Classic swivels though and keeps the full guard. Classic throws his legs up looking for a submission but Reese uses it to pass to side control.
You can see the frustration on Classic's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Reese controlling the position. Reese is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Classic is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reese controlling the position from side mount. Classic is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Reese in side control lands a decent elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Classic wants to control but Reese postures up. Reese moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Classic takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Reese trying to control the position but Classic is working away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Reese remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that's the end of the fight! Gregorio Reese showed his dominance in that final round. Well Reese has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
