PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stacey Briggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Randy Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stacey Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Randy Silva!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet.
Briggs scoring well with a low kick there.
Briggs dives in for a single leg takedown but Silva sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Briggs tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silva smiles and moves away.

Silva misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Briggs defends it nicely.

Silva connects with a body shot that sends Briggs's belly button to the back.
Briggs avoids the head kick by Silva.
Briggs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Silva.
Silva looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Briggs moves into range and clinches up with Silva.
Briggs is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Silva is defending well.
Briggs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Briggs tries to score a body lock takedown but Silva shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
A nice left hand lands by Briggs.
Briggs has Silva pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Silva manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Briggs breaks the clinch.
Briggs shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Briggs's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Randy Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Briggs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Silva doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Silva manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Briggs manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Silva has Briggs in his guard.

Briggs is pushing down on Silva's leg trying to pass to half guard. Silva is fighting to maintain full guard but Briggs has managed to sneak the leg through.

That was a close second round but I would say that Stacey Briggs will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Briggs can't get the takedown.
Briggs manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Silva tries for a takedown. No joy.

Silva wants a takedown but no success here.

Briggs manages to break the clinch.
Silva throws a one two combo.
No luck for Briggs with that takedown attempt.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Briggs kicks Silva off and gets to his feet.
Silva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Briggs will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Briggs shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Briggs gets slowly back to his feet.
Silva tries to score a power double leg takedown but Briggs sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Silva somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Briggs avoids it really well and circles away.

Briggs moves into the clinch.

Briggs successfully pulls guard.
Silva stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Briggs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Silva drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Silva jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Briggs wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Silva postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Briggs is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Silva, into his guard.
Briggs is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

We're going to have a standup here because Stacey Briggs wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Briggs tries to bum rush Silva with a series of wild strikes but Silva uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A head kick misses from Briggs.
Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Briggs circles away quickly and effectively.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Randy Silva.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
