PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Trey Kline (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trey Kline!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Cote!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cote closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Cote jumps into guard, dragging Kline to the mat.
Kline could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kline avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kline engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Cote looking for a guillotine here but Kline defends easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kline accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Cote is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kline tries to stand but Cote is controlling from the bottom.

Kline drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cote manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kline has Cote in his guard.
Cote showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Kline tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kline looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cote wants to stand but Kline has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cote sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kline's guard.
Kline punching from the bottom.
Cote wants to take a breather but Kline is having none of it.
Kline is looking for a sweep. Cote is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cote looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kline looks like he's trying to stand up.

Cote is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kline has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kline is trying to get back to full guard.
Kline might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cote trying to control the pace.
Kline won't allow Cote to pass to mount.
Cote looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Cote is trying to control the action in half guard but Kline is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cote passes to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cote stands up and beckons Kline to his feet.
Cote shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kline as he jumps to the side.
Nice takedown defense from Cote. No joy for Kline on that attempt.

Cote fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kline, pushing him back against the cage.
Kline looking to stall.

Cote lands a takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Cote stands up over Kline, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kline dives in for a single leg takedown but Cote sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Cote is working for takedown but Kline is calmly controlling the position for now.

Kline manages to break the clinch.
Kline tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cote paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kline takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Kline throws a left and a right that both miss
and Cote counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A solid leg kick lands there for Kline.
Trey Kline is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cote closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kline did well to prevent Cote getting side control.
Cote controlling the pace.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That's one minute gone in the round.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kline misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Cote looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kline tries to get to full guard but Cote has control of the leg.
Cote seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cote looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cote is trying to control. Kline wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Kline flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cote wants to pass to mount but Kline is defending the position.
Cote perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Cote changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kline tries to avoid it but Cote manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kline to the ground. Kline escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kline tries to clinch up but Cote circles away and keeps his distance.
Cote pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kline throws a nice looking combination but Cote bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Cote doesn't manage to clinch there - Kline circles away.
Kline tries to clinch but Cote moves out of range.
Kline throws a head kick but Cote moves out of range.
Kline throws a sloppy head kick and Cote moves out of range easily.
Cote shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kline but Kline pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Trey Kline has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Cote.

Kline moves into range and clinches up with Cote.

Cote pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Cote looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cote wants to control from the top but Kline keeps moving.
Cote is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cote slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote is working Kline over with some ground and pound from side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Cote stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cote wants it to stay on the feet.
Kline keeps the fight on the outside.
Cote looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cote shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Cote closes the distance looking to clinch

and Kline moves into the clinch.
Kline tries to circle away but Cote has him pinned against the cage.
Cote pushes off an throws an elbow but Kline leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Kline can't get the takedown.
Kline has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cote avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trey Kline. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kline is trying to push Cote away but Cote has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kline has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Cote after a bit of a struggle.
Kline tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cote has Kline pressed against the cage, preventing Kline from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Cote breaks from the clinch.
Cote misses with a double jab

and Kline moves into the clinch.
Cote pressing his opponent against the cage.
Kline swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kline misses with an elbow over the top.

Cote has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kline uses from the top position.

Cote has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Kline doesn't defend quickly enough and Cote has managed to lock this one up! Can Kline escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Cote on a fantastic submission victory.
