Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Big! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Mein! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Big throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mein tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Big is in Mein's guard. Big wants to pass the guard but Mein is keeping the position. Big prevents Mein from getting back to his feet. Big in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Big throws an elbow that misses. Mein uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Big's guard. Nice move by Mein! Mein would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mein stopping the sweep attempt from Big. Big has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Big is pulling down on Mein's head to control his posture.
The ref stands the fighters back up. John Big wasn't doing enough on the ground. Mein slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Mein throws a right and a left that Big avoids nicely. Big fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A big left from Big misses. Big fails to land the takedown. Mein misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Big dives in for a single leg takedown but Mein sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Big. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mein breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Big shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mein defends it nicely. Mein cracks Big with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Mein throws a one two combo.
It looks like John Big has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mein moves out of range of the strikes. Big is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight. Mein's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Mein duly obliges. Good standup being displayed there by Mein as he connects with a hook. Mein misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mein uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nice jab there from Mein. Mein pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Big back to the cage. Mein follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Big throws a lazy right hand but Mein sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Mein throws a series of punches but Big avoids them all with ease. Mein lands with a right hand. Mein scores with a one two! Big had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. A nice combination there by Mein.
Big tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mein swivels and escapes. Big darts in looking for a takedown but Mein gets double underhooks and turns Big into the cage. Big goes for a takedown attempt but Mein pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Mein throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Big. Mike Mein is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Big shoots in for a double leg but Mein sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Mein is working the combinations to good effect here. Mein displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. A decent looking cross lands there for Mein.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mein lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Mein tests Big's chin there with a solid looking shot. Mein keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mein connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. A nice combination there by Mein.
Mein keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Big. Mein scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Big is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mein. Some wild striking there from Mein.
Mein looks winded! Big shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mein but Mein pushes him off and we're back to square one. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Big dives in and grabs Mein's left leg, looking for a takedown. Mein pushes down on Big's head and hops out. Mein fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Mein dominated that round. The cut man is working on John Big's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Mein shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Big eats them both and turns towards Mein to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Big misses with a hook. Big tries to move into range but Mein moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Big ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mein moves away. Big shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mein as he jumps to the side. Big looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mein! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mein is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Mein is working to avoid the ground and pound but Big connects with a decent elbow. Mein is pushing Big's head away, looking to escape. Big manages to hold on to the position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Big lands a few punches from side control. Big trying to control the action but Mein is working from the bottom. Big tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Mein dodges the ground and pound from Big. Big trying to control the action but Mein is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mein gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Big won't let Mein get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. John Big overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Big working away from the top, dropping strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Big putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! You get the feeling that Mein really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Mein is breathing heavily. Big in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Mein is rocked! Big postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Mein in real trouble here! The ref calls for Mein to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Big!
