The bell rings for round one and we are underway! BJ darts in and clinches Hong up against the cage. BJ tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hong is looking for a takedown. BJ has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hong uses from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. BJ is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Hong presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. BJ tries for a takedown but Hong manages to get underhooks.
BJ wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hong has him pressed against the cage. Hong goes for a takedown attempt but BJ pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
BJ wants to clinch and Hong counters with a nice double leg into side control. BJ won't be happy with that. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hong lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Hong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. BJ knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Hong cracks BJ with a big elbow. Hong lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. BJ wants to control but Hong postures up. Hong is looking to take a break and control but BJ is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for BJ on the ground. Hong cracks BJ with an elbow. That is naaassty. Hong landing strikes. BJ manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hong's best efforts. Hong missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. BJ missing with punches from the bottom.
BJ is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hong's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hong's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. BJ lands shots from the back. BJ has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Hong is in real trouble here. BJ gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Hong is tapping out! BJ wins by rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jay Dee BJ! A very excited looking Jay Dee BJ rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
