Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wanderlei Rapide!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Cook!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rapide as he jumps to the side.
Cook tries to clinch but Rapide is having none of it.

Cook drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cook is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rapide managing to control the position.
Cook would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cook stays in close to Rapide's body and controls the position.
Rapide has a closed guard, preventing Cook from standing up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John Cook wasn't active enough on the ground.
Rapide shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cook counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Cook.

Cook fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Rapide tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Cook just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rapide jumps guard and drags Cook to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Rapide has Cook pulled in close to control his posture.
Rapide throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Cook advances to half guard.
Cook moves into full mount! Rapide won't be happy about that!
Cook throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Cook controlling the pace for now.
Cook working the ground and pound effectively.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cook content just to control the position here.

Rapide defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cook.
Rapide wants to hold on but Cook pushes him away.
Rapide is in a horrible position here. Cook smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Cook looking to control but Rapide is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rapide keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rapide is breathing heavily.
Cook working the ground and pound effectively.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cook landing strikes from the mount and Rapide is in trouble!
Cook tries to control but Rapide wriggling away.
Rapide is trying desperately to improve position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cook avoids the attempt from Rapide to control.

Cook with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Cook dominated that round.

Cook shoots in for a takedown but Rapide shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rapide looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rapide tries to sprawl but Cook drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Cook wants to take a breather but Rapide is having none of it.
Cook takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cook missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Cook is working for a submission of some sort.
Cook trying to control from half guard but Rapide is working away.

Cook trying to control the pace.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cook tries to pass to full mount but Rapide defends it.
Cook works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cook with a couple of short strikes.
Rapide holds on for dear life, controlling Cook's posture momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rapide wants to control but Cook is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cook is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rapide can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cook looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.


Rapide is rocked!
Cook unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Rapide wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Cook celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Cook!
