The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bolero goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pearson prevents it.
Bolero tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Pearson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Pearson pulls Bolero into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Pearson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pearson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Bolero decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pearson, up you get!

Pearson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Giovanni Pearson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bolero might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pearson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
