PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrei Arlovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andrei Arlovski!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Arlovski tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Arlovski to the ground. Arlovski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Arlovski tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Arlovski manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jones throws a combination that misses
and Arlovski counters with a series of strikes. Jones will be more careful next time no doubt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Arlovski.

Jones darts in looking for a takedown but Arlovski gets double underhooks and turns Jones into the cage.

Arlovski slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

letting Arlovski counter with a right hand.
Jones looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Arlovski is fending him off so far but Jones persists. Nope, Arlovski circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Arlovski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Arlovski keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

letting Arlovski counter with a right hand.

Jones moves out of range as Arlovski strikes.

Jones is breathing heavily.
Arlovski scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Arlovski has eaten all the pies!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target.
Jones stalks Arlovski and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Arlovski's face. Arlovski staggers backwards, shaken.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arlovski lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Arlovski drops Jones with a beautiful combination! Jones stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Arlovski is looking for the KO!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Jones looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Arlovski throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jones stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Arlovski has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Arlovski throws out the jab.

Well Arlovski has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
