PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Merlin Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robo Boss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Merlin Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robo Boss!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Boss does no damage.
Boss misses with a wild body shot.
Boss misses with a looping left.
Curtis takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
An inside leg kick from Boss misses.
Curtis ducks under a wild hook from Boss.

Boss tries to sprawl but Curtis drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Curtis controlling the action here.
Curtis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boss looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Merlin Curtis.
Curtis is looking to clinch but Boss is avoiding it.
Curtis misses with the combination.
Curtis wants to clinch up but Boss keeps it at a distance.
Boss lands a glancing blow to the side of Curtis's head.
Boss scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Curtis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boss to the mat! Boss manages to get full guard.
Curtis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Curtis slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Curtis is looking to stand up but Boss won't let him.
Curtis passes Boss's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Curtis stalling.

Curtis decides to stand and escape the position.

Boss throws a looping overhand right but Curtis ducks down to avoid it.

Curtis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Boss pushes Curtis off looking to stand but Curtis dives back in and keeps control.
Curtis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Curtis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Curtis lands strikes from half guard.
Curtis stops Boss from getting back to his feet.

Curtis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boss keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boss looks winded!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Boss has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Curtis is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Curtis misses with a low kick.
Curtis pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Curtis tries to bum rush Boss with a series of wild strikes but Boss uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Boss swings for the body but Curtis moves out of range.

Curtis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Boss to the mat! Boss manages to get full guard.
Boss wants to sweep but no luck.
Curtis controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Merlin Curtis just wasn't active enough.
Curtis doesn't manage to clinch there - Boss circles away.
Curtis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Boss avoids it really well and circles away.

Curtis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boss trying to remain calm as Curtis controls from the top position.
Boss struggling a bit here.
Merlin Curtis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Curtis wants to stand but Boss is controlling his arm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Curtis happy to just control the position for now.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boss tries to bench press Curtis off him but Curtis keeps the position.

Curtis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Boss, who protects the arm well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

We're going to have a standup here because Merlin Curtis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Boss looks to land a combination but Curtis avoids it well.
Merlin Curtis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A low kick from Curtis is predictable there
and Boss counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Curtis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Boss!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Curtis in side control, throwing shots but Boss defends.

Curtis dives in for a single leg takedown but Boss sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Curtis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Curtis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Curtis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Curtis tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Curtis doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Merlin Curtis wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Boss throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Curtis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Curtis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Curtis scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Boss to see if he's OK.
Boss is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Curtis off and has taken his back!
Curtis is in bad spot here.
Curtis is trying to get back to his feet but Boss has full control of the position and if anything, Curtis has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Will Boss go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Curtis can't escape the position.

Boss is not going to allow Curtis to sit and survive in this position.
Curtis breaks Boss's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Curtis wants to pass the guard but Boss is keeping the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Robo Boss wasn't active enough on the ground.
Boss throws a head kick but Curtis moves out of range.
Boss moves out of range of the body kick from Curtis.

Curtis looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Boss!

Boss tries to escape but Curtis is in control.

Boss throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Curtis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Merlin Curtis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Merlin Curtis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Curtis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
