Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Monte Bernard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Martin Malmqvist! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice uppercut lands for Malmqvist. That snapped Bernard's head back.
Malmqvist dives in for a single leg takedown but Bernard sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Malmqvist manages to break the clinch.
Bernard fails to land the takedown. Bernard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Malmqvist moves in looking to clinch but Bernard pushes him off. Malmqvist shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bernard sprawls well. Bernard wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Malmqvist gets slowly back to his feet. Bernard is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Malmqvist's half guard. Bernard performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Bernard trying to pass the guard but Malmqvist defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Malmqvist pushes Bernard off looking to stand but Bernard dives back in and keeps control.
Bernard is keen to just control but Malmqvist is a slippery customer.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Monte Bernard. Malmqvist scores with a one two! Bernard had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Bernard misses with an attempted mid kick.
Bernard doesn't manage to clinch there - Malmqvist circles away.
Malmqvist misses with a takedown attempt and Bernard counters by clinching up. Monte Bernard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Malmqvist. Malmqvist pulls Bernard into guard.
Bernard slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bernard pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Malmqvist is keeping the position for now. Bernard trying to control but Malmqvist is working from the bottom. Bernard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
We're going to have a standup here because Monte Bernard wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Bernard thows a body shot but no joy. Bernard throws a leg kick but Malmqvist moved away. Malmqvist takes the fight into the clinch. Malmqvist missing with knees to the body.
Bernard is trying to pull guard but Malmqvist has him pressed against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Malmqvist breaks the clinch.
Malmqvist throws a hook but Bernard blocks it. Malmqvist tries a head kick but it misses.
Malmqvist tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bernard swats him away and circles back towards the center. Bernard tries for a takedown but Malmqvist sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Bernard takes a kick to the side of the head. Malmqvist misses with a looping right. Bernard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Malmqvist tries a head kick but it misses.
Malmqvist fails to land the takedown. Malmqvist looks winded! Malmqvist swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Malmqvist finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Bernard misses with a looping left.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bernard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Bernard misses with a low kick. Malmqvist tries to bum rush Bernard with a series of wild strikes but Bernard uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Malmqvist throws a right hand that Bernard ducks under and follows up with a left that Bernard also avoids with ease. Bernard misses with a low kick. Malmqvist displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bernard. Bernard blocks a jab. Bernard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Malmqvist. Bernard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Malmqvist to the mat! Malmqvist manages to get full guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bernard scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Bernard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Malmqvist swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Monte Bernard will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Malmqvist swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Bernard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Malmqvist's guard now. Malmqvist wriggles free and stands up. Malmqvist fails in his attempt to clinch. Malmqvist moves into the clinch. Bernard managing to block the knees to the body from Malmqvist.
Bernard wants to stall.
Malmqvist prevents a takedown attempt there.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Malmqvist. Malmqvist breaks the clinch.
Malmqvist blocks a head kick by Bernard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bernard takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
That's one minute gone in the round. Malmqvist tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Malmqvist is breathing heavily. A combination from Malmqvist does no damage. Malmqvist wants to clinch. Malmqvist throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bernard. Bernard tries for a takedown but Malmqvist sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Martin Malmqvist seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Malmqvist has closed the distance and engaged Bernard in a clinch.
Bernard tries to pull guard but Malmqvist holds him up against the cage and eventually Bernard drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Monte Bernard. That's going to take a lot out of him. Malmqvist tries to circle away but Bernard has him pinned against the cage. Bernard is trying to break the clinch but Malmqvist has him pressed against the cage. Bernard tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Malmqvist's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bernard lands a really nice looking cross but Malmqvist seems unphased.
Bernard tries to score a power double leg takedown but Malmqvist sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bernard somewhat. Bernard takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Bernard misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Malmqvist takes the fight into the clinch. Malmqvist landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Malmqvist manages to pull guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bernard trying to control the position from guard on top but Malmqvist is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Malmqvist wants to get back to his feet but Bernard is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Bernard trying to control but Malmqvist is working from the bottom.

Bernard is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Malmqvist has escaped the position, nice work there. Bernard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malmqvist keeps working. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bernard in side control, just content to control the action for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

so Bernard counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Bernard is standing up over Malmqvist. Malmqvist looks to escape but Bernard dives into side control.
Bernard content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Malmqvist dodges the ground and pound from Bernard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bernard is working Malmqvist over with some ground and pound from side control. Bernard looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bernard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Malmqvist keeps working. Bernard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bernard is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Malmqvist has escaped the position, nice work there. Bernard swings around for an armbar but Malmqvist sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bernard's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bernard lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Malmqvist wants to get up but he can't break Bernard's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Bernard pulls Malmqvist in close to prevent any damage. Bernard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Malmqvist's guard. Malmqvist is looking to stand back up but Bernard counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Malmqvist. Malmqvist takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Malmqvist is looking to escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bernard throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Bernard is trying to control. Malmqvist wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Malmqvist keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Malmqvist is refusing to be controlled, as Bernard sits in half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Monte Bernard has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Bernard misses with a double jab
and Malmqvist counters with a good, hard body kick but Bernard shrugs it off. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Malmqvist looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Malmqvist misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that's the end of the fight! Monte Bernard showed his dominance in that final round. I think Bernard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
